Every year nearly 7,500 children are born with a serious heart disorder. The Children’s Heart Federation was formed to be supportive of these children and their families during one of the most traumatic periods of their lives. This brings heartbreak and serious disruption to most families, including financial difficulties. Families often need urgent help for basic, essential necessities their children really need, in times of crisis.
CHF established an Emergency Welfare Fund to provide equipment and help out in emergency situations of extreme hardship and we helped to raise funds for this cause. Examples of the equipment and emergency support they give: Specialist Wheelchairs, adapted prams to accommodate oxygen cylinders, computers to enable children to continue their education, educational play/garden equipment so that heart children who are unable to play ‘away from home’ like normal children can continue learning through play at home. Also transport and accommodation costs for families whose specialist hospital is a long distance from their home so heart children’s parents are always at their bedside.
